WHEREAS
, A richandpurposefullifedrewto a closewith
the passingof admiredphysicianJan HansenGarrettof Tyleron
July
A16, 2024,at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, The son of Dr.AJamesMarionGarrettand Annabelle
HansenGarrett,Jan Garrettwas bornin Templeon June
A14, 1941;
he graduatedfromThe Universityof Texasat AustinandBaylor
UniversityCollegeof  Medicine;afterservingas  a  general
medicalofficerin theU.S.Navy,he completedhisorthopedic
residencyat the Universityof OklahomaHealthSciencesCenter;
he establishedthe Boneand JointClinicin Tyler,and in 1992,he
becamefoundingpresidentof theAzaleaOrthopedicsclinic;he
wasadoredby hispatients,staff,andcolleaguesandreceived
manyhonors,includinginductionintothe BethesdaHealthClinic
DoctorLukeSocietyin 2019;overthe years,he heldpositionsat
the UT TylerHealthScienceCenterand severalotherhospitals,
andhe wasa foundingmemberof the BaylorScott& WhiteTexas
Spine& JointHospitalandpresidentof AmbulatorySurgical
Centerof Tyler;for morethantwo decades,he servedon the board
of PhysiciansContractingOrganizationof Texas;he retiredin
2017;and
WHEREAS, Dr.AGarrettmarriedtheloveof hislife,the
formerMadonnaSueJones,on August
A21,1965,andtheywere
blessedwithtwo daughters,JenniferandLaura;eventually,he
knewthejoyof becomingtheproudgrandfatherof Patrickand
Annabelle;he and SueGarrettshareda fulfillingrelationship

untilher deathin 2017;fortunateenoughto findlovea second
time,he marriedElenMoncrieffon December29,2018;his many
interestsincludedwine,classicalmusic,travel,golf,reading,
and collectingand sharingfirsteditionbooks;and
WHEREAS, AlthoughJan Garrettis deeplymissed,his strong
faith,greatkindness,andimmensedevotionto his familywill
remaina sourceof inspirationto all who wereprivilegedto know
him;now,therefore,be it
RESOLVED, ThattheSenateof theStateof Texas,89th
Legislature,herebypaytributeto thelifeof Dr.
AJanHansen
Garrettand extendsinceresympathyto the membersof his family:
to hiswife,ElenGarrett;to hisdaughters,JenniferDeenand
her husband,Patrick,and LauraJonesand her husband,Matt;to
his grandchildren,PatrickDeenJr. and AnnabelleGardner;to his
siblings,MaryJoyceand Chris,Steve,and MikeGarrett;and to
his manyotherrelativesand friends;and,be it further
RESOLVED, Thatan officialcopyof thisResolutionbe
preparedfor his familyand thatwhenthe TexasSenateadjourns
thisday,it do so in memoryof Jan Garrett.
