R. 1162 - 1 - Senate Resolution 1162 By: Senators Ligon, Jr. of the 3rd, Albers of the 56th, Williams of the 19th, Thompson of the 14th, Hufstetler of the 52nd and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Elijah Newell; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Elijah is a homeschool student in the 7th grade from Brunswick, Georgia, who2 has displayed excellence in his knowledge of history and social studies in the National3 History Bee; and4 WHEREAS, he was a top finisher at the National History Bee regionals in Orlando and, with5 a score of 19 points, he has qualified for the National History Bee finals in Chicago in June,6 2016; and7 WHEREAS, Elijah was the only homeschool student in the 7th grade in the Orlando region8 to qualify for the national finals; and9 WHEREAS, he has had a lifelong love of history and is particularly interested in World War10 II history because his grandfather, Mr. Doug Newell, Jr., served honorably in the United11 States military during that war; and12 WHEREAS, Elijah is active in the homeschool community, as he is a member of the Coastal13 Georgia Homeschool Association and the Next Generation Homeschool Co-op; and14 WHEREAS, he is also active in Brunswick's Christian community, as he attends Ella Grove15 Baptist Church; and16 WHEREAS, Elijah shows great promise to be a future leader for homeschool students in17 Georgia; and18 WHEREAS, his dedication to his studies has already led him to great success, and his hard19 work will continue to pay dividends as his education progresses.20 16 LC 109 0386 S. R. 1162 - 2 - NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body21 recognize and commend Elijah Newell for his accomplishments and wish him the best in all22 future endeavors.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed24 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Elijah Newell.25
