House Resolution 1
A resolution designating the week of April 4-11, 2021, 2
as the "Days of Remembrance" and April 8, 2021, as 3
"Holocaust Remembrance Day" in the State of Florida. 4

WHEREAS, the Holocaust, the state-sponsored, systematic 6
persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by Nazi Germany 7
and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945, resulted in the 8
murder of six million Jewish people, and 9
WHEREAS, in addition, Roma (Gypsies) and Poles were 10
targeted for decimation for racial, ethnic, or national reasons, 11
and millions more, including persons with disabilities, 12
homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Soviet prisoners of war, and 13
political dissidents, suffered grievous oppression and death 14
under Nazi tyranny, and 15
WHEREAS, the history of the Holocaust offers an opportunity 16
to reflect on the moral responsibilities of individuals, 17
societies, and governments, particularly to remain vigilant 18
against hatred, persecution, and tyranny, and 19
WHEREAS, pursuant to an act of the United States Congress 20
(Public Law No. 96-388, October 7, 1980), the United States 21
Holocaust Memorial Council has designated Sunday, April 4, 22
through Sunday, April 11, 2021, as the "Days of Remembrance" for 23
the victims of the Holocaust, including the Day of Remembrance 24
known as Yom HaShoah on April 8, 2021, and 25

WHEREAS, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, in 26
honor of its survivors, and in utmost gratitude for the risks 27
taken by rescuers and liberators, the residents of the state are 28
encouraged to rededicate themselves to the principles of human 29
dignity and individual freedom in a just society, thereby 30
ensuring that such atrocities are never repeated, NOW, 31

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 34

That the week of April 4-11, 2021, is designated as the 37
"Days of Remembrance" and April 8, 2021, is designated as 38
"Holocaust Remembrance Day" in the State of Florida. 39
