1SENATE RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 

3recognize Head Coach Doug Bruno of the DePaul University 

4women's basketball team, the Blue Demons, on his illustrious 

5coaching career; and

6 WHEREAS, Coach Bruno, over the course of his 39-season 

7career, has led the DePaul University women's basketball team 

8towards achieving 786 wins, 19 conference championships, 25 

9NCAA Division I Tournament appearances, of which 18 were 

10consecutive, and four NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances; he 

11has also had the privilege of seeing 15 of his players drafted 

12by the WNBA; and

13 WHEREAS, Coach Bruno has represented the United States on 

14the global level, serving as assistant coach of the USA 

15Basketball Women's Olympic Team as it won the gold medal at 

16both the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England and the 2016 

17Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and

18 WHEREAS, Coach Bruno has earned a number of accolades for 

19his contributions to basketball, including being named 

20Conference USA's Coach of the Decade in 2005, becoming the 

21inaugural recipient of the Illinois Basketball Coaches 

22Association Rich and Ron Herrin Award in 2018, and being

1inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall 

2of Fame in 2000 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 

32022; therefore, be it

4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 

5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Head 

6Coach Doug Bruno of the DePaul University women's basketball 

7team, the Blue Demons, on his 39-season coaching career and 

8his decades of effort, dedication, and hard work, and we
