Iowaisrepealedandthefollowingadoptedinlieuthereof:4
Sec.17.Lieutenantgovernororlieutenantgovernor-elect5
tobecomeoractasgovernororgovernor-elect.Ifthereisa6
temporarydisabilityofthegovernor,thelieutenantgovernor7
shallactasgovernoruntilthedisabilityisremoved,or8
thegovernordies,resigns,orisremovedfromoffice.In9
caseofthedeath,resignation,orremovalfromofficeofthe10
governor,thelieutenantgovernorshallbecomegovernorfor11
theremainderoftheterm,whichshallcreateavacancyin12
theofficeoflieutenantgovernor.Thissectionshallalso13
apply,asappropriate,tothegovernor-electandthelieutenant14
governor-elect.15
Sec.2.REFERRALANDPUBLICATION.Theforegoingproposed16
amendmenttotheConstitutionoftheStateofIowaisreferred17
tothegeneralassemblytobechosenatthenextgeneral18
electionformembersofthegeneralassembly,andshallbe19
publishedasprovidedbylawforthreeconsecutivemonths20
previoustothedateofthatelection.21

Thisjointresolutionproposesanamendmenttothe25
ConstitutionoftheStateofIowarelatingtothegubernatorial26
lineofsuccession.Theamendmentcreatesasystemof27
successioninthecaseofapermanentortemporarydisability28
ofthegovernororgovernor-elect.Inthecaseofatemporary29
disabilityofthegovernororgovernor-elect,thelieutenant30
governororlieutenantgovernor-electshallactasgovernoror31
governor-electuntilthedisabilityisremoved,orthegovernor32
dies,resigns,orisremovedfromoffice.Inthecaseofthe33
death,resignation,orremovalfromofficeofthegovernor34
