1HOUSE RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 

3Representatives wish to congratulate Lois Callahan on her 

4election to the office of National President of the Veterans 

5of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) Auxiliary, serving 

6from 2025-2026; and

7 WHEREAS, Established in 1914, members of the VFW Auxiliary 

8wanted to serve the veterans of this country and our 

9communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every 

10man and woman who has served in uniform; the organization is 

11one of the nation's oldest veterans' service organizations and 

12its members are the relatives of those who served in a location 

13of foreign conflict; nearly 470,000 members in more than 3,500 

14Auxiliaries nationwide, plus three foreign-based Auxiliaries, 

15volunteer millions of hours and fundraise millions of dollars 

16for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military 

17service personnel, and their families; and

18 WHEREAS, Lois Callahan has served the VFW Auxiliary since 

191990 as District and Department President, National Youth 

20Activities Ambassador, and National Legislative Ambassador; 

21and

22 WHEREAS, Lois Callahan was also elected to the office of 

HR0522- 2 -LRB104 15717 ECR 28900 r

1National Guard of the VFW Auxiliary, serving from 2021-2022; 

2and

3 WHEREAS, Lois Callahan originally joined the VFW Auxiliary 

4on behalf of her father, Ruben Tamariz, who served in the U.S. 

5Army, both in Korea and Vietnam; and

6 WHEREAS, VFW Auxiliary National President Lois Callahan is 

7a Life Member of Jack E. Smoot/Ralph G. King VFW Auxiliary 

82278; and

9 WHEREAS, Lois Callahan has dedicated her life to the 

10values and goals of the VFW, i
