 COOK, CRUZ, DeSTEFANO, EPSTEIN, FORREST, GALLAHAN, HYNDMAN, McDONOUGH,
 MILLER, PEOPLES-STOKES, RAGA, REYES, RIVERA, ROSENTHAL, SEAWRIGHT,
 SIMON, STIRPE, WALKER, WEPRIN, WILLIAMS -- read once and referred to
 the Committee on Education

 AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring nurses in
 public schools

 The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
 bly, do enact as follows:

 1 Section 1. Paragraph b of subdivision 2 of section 902 of the educa-
 2 tion law, as amended by chapter 501 of the laws of 2005, is amended to
 3 read as follows:
 4 b. Any such board or trustees may employ one or more school nurses,
 5 who shall be registered professional nurses, as well as other health
 6 professionals, as may be required. Such registered professional nurses
 7 and other health professionals shall aid the director of school health
 8 services of the district and shall perform such duties, including health
 9 instruction for the benefit of the public schools as may be prescribed
 10 by such board or trustees, in compliance with each such health profes-
 11 sional's practice act. Such registered professional nurse shall be
 12 required to be on the premises during school hours in any school with an
 13 enrollment of one hundred or more pupils.
 14 § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of September next
 15 succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
