1SENATE RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, Our Community Salutes is a national nonprofit 

3organization dedicated to recognizing, honoring, and 

4supporting high school seniors who have chosen to enlist in 

5the Armed Forces of the United States immediately following 

6graduation; and

7 WHEREAS, Our Community Salutes was founded by educator and 

8former United States Army officer Dr. Kenneth Hartman in 2009 

9to provide enlistees and their parents with guidance, 

10information, resources, and meaningful community support 

11during the transition from civilian life to military service; 

12and

13 WHEREAS, Each year, thousands of high school seniors 

14across the United States make the honorable decision to enlist 

15in the Armed Forces, including the United States Army, Navy, 

16Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force, 

17demonstrating courage, discipline, and an unwavering 

18commitment to duty; and

19 WHEREAS, Our Community Salutes serves enlistees by 

20providing recognition and resources that assist in their 

21successful transition into military service, ensuring they are 

22celebrated and supported by their communities; and

1 WHEREAS, Our Community Salutes also serves parents, 

2guardians, and families by offering information, connection, 

3and encouragement as they support their sons and daughters 

4during this important life transition; and

5 WHEREAS, Our Community Salutes Chicagoland has 

6demonstrated exceptional leadership in Illinois by hosting 

7Enlistee Recognition Ceremonies that bring together more than 

870 high school enlistees and their families, along with 

9educators, veterans, and community partners, to ensure that
