Arizona SB 1419: solar energy; inspection; contractors
Status: Signed by Governor (as of 2026-06-19)
State: Arizona · Session: 57th-2nd-regular · Bill: SB 1419
Subjects: Energy, Consumer Protection

Summary
This bill requires large energy users in Arizona — such as data centers, cryptocurrency mining operations, factories, and other facilities that use at least 50 megawatts of power — to pay for all the electricity costs they create, including fuel, generation, transmission, and distribution expenses. Most importantly, it prevents these costs from being passed on to everyday utility customers, meaning ordinary households and small businesses will no longer subsidize the power bills of major industrial users. The bill affects both public power entities (like municipal utilities) and private utility companies regulated by the Arizona Corporation Commission. It also strengthens consumer protections for people buying or leasing solar panels, requiring clearer disclosures about roof conditions, total costs, and installer qualifications. Overall, this bill matters because it ensures that big power consumers pay their fair share, protecting average Arizonans from higher utility bills driven by the state's growing demand from tech and industrial facilities.
