A house RESOLUTION

to express the profound sorrow of
the members of the south carolina house of representatives upon the passing of
mrs. wilhelmina page kimpson of columbia, to celebrate her life, and to extend
their deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Whereas, many were deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Wilhelmina
Page Kimpson of Columbia on June 28, 2024, at the venerable age of ninety; and

Whereas, Mrs. Wilhelmina Page Kimpson was born on April 20, 1934, in
Dillon, the oldest child of William and Ethel Page. She attended the segregated
schools of Dillon County, graduating from Gordon High School in 1952. She
thereafter attended and graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in
Charlotte, North Carolina, where she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary
education in 1956. She attended graduate school at Northwestern University in
Evanston, Illinois, and later graduated from the University of South Carolina
with a master's degree in education; and

Whereas, Wilhelmina Page moved to Columbia to teach second grade at
Waverly Elementary School in Richland County School District One. She
thereafter taught at Burton Elementary School and Crane Creek Elementary before
becoming a Title I reading coordinator for the district. She retired from
Richland School District One after forty-four years of service; and

Whereas, while teaching at Waverly, she met a young mathematics
teacher from Booker T. Washington High School, Milton Kimpson. The two wed on
December 19, 1959, and enjoyed over sixty years of marriage until Milton's
death in 2021. To this union, three sons were born: Milton Gary, Marc Aaron,
and Marlon Emil. For well over sixty years, the family lived in the Lincoln
Park Community off Farrow Road in Columbia; and

Whereas, the Kimpson family joined the Saint John Baptist Church in
the early 1960s under the pastorship of the late Reverend Roscoe C. Wilson Sr.
Mrs. Kimpson faithfully attended Saint John until her health failed shortly
before her death. She served on the Deaconess Board, the Pauline Russell
Missionary Circle, the Tutorial Ministry, and various other auxiliaries; and

Whereas, Mrs. Kimpson was a life member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc., having pledged while a student at Johnson C. Smith University.
She was a member of the Gamma Nu Omega Chapter in Columbia, where she served as
a member of the Housing Board, as well as in other capacities. Mrs. Kimpson was
also a life member of the NAACP and Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and
faithfully served the Columbia branch for many years. Further, she was a member
of the Columbia Area Reading Council and Retired Teachers Association, and she
enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family
and friends. She lived a full life; and

Whereas, she leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Louise Page
Gordon of Clinton, Maryland; her sons, Milton (Audra), Marc, and Marlon; her
grandchildren, Andrea, Macy, Amanda, Marleigh, and Marlon Davis; and a host of
other family members and friends. She will be missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South
Carolina House of Representatives, by this
resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Mrs. Wilhelmina Page
Kimpson of Columbia, celebrate her life, and extend their deepest sympathy to
her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy
of this resolution be presented to the family.
