1HOUSE RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish 

3to commend the organizers, volunteers, vendors, and 

4participants of the South Main Mercado for their dedication, 

5vision, and contributions to the City of Rockford and the 

6State of Illinois; and

7 WHEREAS, The South Main Mercado, held annually in the City 

8of Rockford, exemplifies the spirit of community engagement by 

9celebrating Latino heritage, uplifting local entrepreneurs, 

10and promoting the economic and cultural vibrancy of the South 

11Main corridor; and

12 WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2023, the South Main 

13Mercado has grown rapidly, attracting thousands of attendees, 

14empowering minority-owned businesses, and revitalizing a 

15historically significant area of Rockford through partnerships 

16with the Ethnic Heritage Museum, Comprehensive Community 

17Solutions, SWIFTT, and numerous community advocates; and

18 WHEREAS, The South Main Mercado's remarkable success was 

19recognized statewide, earning the 2024 Illinois Lieutenant 

20Governor Award for Revitalization - Promotion Approach, an 

21acknowledgment of its transformative impact and exemplary 

22community leadership; and

1 WHEREAS, The South Main Mercado not only provides a 

2platform for entrepreneurship and artistic expression but also 

3strengthens the social fabric of the Rockford region, 

4encouraging future generations to take pride in their culture, 

5history, and neighborhood development; therefore, be it

6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 

7HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 

8we commend the organizers, volunteers, vendors,
