SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

20 ILCS 2310/2310-238 new

 Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires the Department of Public Health to ensure that pediatricians ask about the presence of guns in homes and distribute safe gun storage information to individuals with guns in a home with a child. Effective January 1, 2026.

1 AN ACT concerning State government.

2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 

3represented in the General Assembly:

4 Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and 

5Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is 

6amended by adding Section 2310-238 as follows:

7 (20 ILCS 2310/2310-238 new)

8 Sec. 2310-238. Safe gun storage; pediatricians. The 

9Department shall ensure that pediatricians ask about the 

10presence of guns in homes and distribute safe gun storage 

11information to individuals with guns who reside in a home with 

12a child. 

13 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January 

141, 2026.
