CELEBRATING the 85th Anniversary of the Civil Air

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend organizations that have demonstrated enduring commitment to
public service, community safety, education, and volunteerism throughout
our great State; and

WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol (CAP), founded on December 1, 1941,
stands as the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, and for
more than eight decades has exemplified the highest ideals of volunteer
service, aviation skill, and civic responsibility; and

WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol New York Wing has proudly served the
citizens of this State since its establishment, embodying CAP's core
missions of Emergency Services, Cadet Programs, and Aerospace Education;
and

WHEREAS, During World War II, Civil Air Patrol members courageously
defended our coasts, patrolled vital shipping lanes, and performed
essential missions that protected our nation's security-an enduring
legacy that continues through the New York Wing's modern-day search and
rescue, disaster relief, and homeland security missions; and

WHEREAS, CAP members assisted rescuers and state agencies
immediately following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, heavily
supported hurricane relief efforts in 2012 and 2021 during Superstorm
Sandy, Hurricanes Ida and Henry, and in response to the COVID pandemic,
as well as aided communities during other natural disasters, such as
floods, wildfires, ice storms, and tornadoes; and

WHEREAS, Today, more than 2,200 volunteers across the New York Wing
contribute thousands of hours annually in service to their communities,
supporting emergency management operations, search and rescue,
conducting aerial reconnaissance, mentoring youth through cadet
leadership programs, and inspiring the next generation of aviators and
innovators; and

WHEREAS, The New York Wing's dedication to integrity, volunteer
service, excellence, and respect reflects the shared values of our State
and Nation, strengthening communities across New York from Buffalo to
Long Island; and

WHEREAS, On this momentous occasion, the members of the New York
State Legislature join in recognizing the 85th Anniversary of the Civil
Air Patrol and in honoring the men and women of the Civil Air Patrol New
York Wing who have given so selflessly in service to others; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the Civil Air Patrol New York Wing,
extending heartfelt appreciation and congratulations to its

members-past, present, and future-for their distinguished service to the
State of New York and the United States of America; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the leadership and membership of the Civil Air Patrol New
York Wing with best wishes for continued success in their noble mission
