SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

70 ILCS 1950/5

 Amends the Renewable Energy Production District Act. Changes the definition of "renewable energy facility" to include, among other things, small modular reactors. Defines "small modular reactor". Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning local government.

2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 

3represented in the General Assembly:

4 Section 5. The Renewable Energy Production District Act is 

5amended by changing Section 5 as follows:

6 (70 ILCS 1950/5)

7 Sec. 5. Definitions. "Board" means the board of trustees 

8of a renewable energy production special district created 

9under this Act. 

10 "District" means a renewable energy production special 

11district created under this Act. 

12 "Renewable energy facility" means a generator that is 

13attached to a building or parcel of land and that is powered by 

14methane gas generated from landfills, solar electric energy or 

15wind, dedicated crops grown for electricity generation, 

16anaerobic digestion of livestock or food processing waste, 

17fuel cells or microturbines powered by renewable fuels, or 

18hydroelectric energy. "Renewable energy facility" includes a 

19small modular reactor. "Renewable fuels" does not include the 

20incineration or burning of tires, garbage, general household, 

21institutional, or commercial waste, industrial lunchroom or 

22office waste, landscape waste other than tree waste, railroad 

23crossties, utility poles, or construction or demolition
