SHORT FORM 2

Nelson of Derby, and Olson of Starksboro 7
Referred to Committee on 8
Date: 9
Subject: Health; health care facilities; prescription drugs 10
Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to make 11
legislative findings regarding the lack of stock of medications for rare diseases 12
in many inpatient health care facilities and the difficulties that those facilities 13
may encounter in procuring needed medications in a timely manner when 14
caring for patients who enter the facility while on a treatment regimen for a 15
rare disease. The bill would require health care facilities to allow patients who 16
are on an inpatient status to continue to take all medically necessary 17
medications prescribed for them by a licensed health care provider, even if the 18
facility does not typically dispense or administer one or more of the 19
medications, in order to facilitate medication adherence and continuity of 20
patient care across settings. 21
