TO RECOGNIZE AND
HONOR STELLA GRACE BURROUGHS, A STUDENT AT THE FAIRFIELD MAGNET SCHOOL FOR MATH
AND SCIENCE, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR BEING THE STATE WINNER OF THE 2026
SOUTH CAROLINA CHILDREN'S BOOK CHALLENGE.

Whereas, Stella Grace
Burroughs won the grand prize in the 2026 South Carolina Children's Book
Challenge for her book, The Day That Power Took a Vacation; and

Whereas, the Children's
Book Challenge, sponsored by Fairfield Electric Cooperative and the Electric
Cooperatives of South Carolina, invited participating students from across the
State to write and illustrate a children's book that focused on a day in the
life of a line worker; and

Whereas, Miss Burroughs'
entry, The Day That Power Took a Vacation, competed against books from
across South Carolina after being selected by Fairfield Electric as the local
finalist; and

Whereas, Miss Burroughs
received a prize of five hundred dollars, and her book will be printed and
mailed to elementary schools throughout South Carolina. Fairfield Electric also
awarded her a prize of one hundred dollars for winning the local challenge; and

Whereas, Ms. Kimberly
Daly, the visual arts teacher at the Fairfield Magnet School for Math and
Science, guided Stella Grace through the book challenge process, and Ms. Daly
received a two-hundred-fifty-dollar prize; and

Whereas, The Day
That Power Took a Vacation tells the story of what happened when the power
went out after Hurricane Helene and how the line workers who restored that
power were like superheroes; and

Whereas, South Carolina's
electric cooperatives have been committed to providing electric power to rural
communities since 1938. This concern for communities and for the future of
youth across South Carolina has been carried forward to this day; and

Whereas, by inspiring
students to learn more about energy in the Palmetto State, South Carolina's
electric cooperatives hope to spark a passion for critical thinking in the
minds of tomorrow's leaders; and

Whereas, the members of
the South Carolina General Assembly value Stella Grace Burroughs's dedication,
creativity, and significant contribution to the State of South Carolina, and
the members extend best wishes to her for continued success in all of her
future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House
of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
