1SENATE RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 

3congratulate five members of the Bolingbrook Fire Department, 

4Lieutenant Joseph Valach and Firefighter-Paramedics Cristian 

5Abarca, John Biederman, Blake Coughlin, and Brandon Roat, on 

6the occasion of receiving the Firefighter Excellence Unit 

7Citation Award; and

8 WHEREAS, The Firefighter Excellence Unit Citation Award 

9recognizes fire departments and teams for an act of service in 

10the line of duty, demonstrating excellence, teamwork, and 

11professionalism in service to the citizens of the State of 

12Illinois; and

13 WHEREAS, The Firefighter Excellence Unit Citation Award is 

14awarded by the Firefighting Medal of Honor Committee, which is 

15assisted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal; and

16 WHEREAS, Lt. Valach and Firefighter-Paramedics Abarca, 

17Biederman, Coughlin, and Roat will be honored at the Annual 

18Firefighter Medal of Honor Ceremony at the Bank of Springfield 

19Center on May 12, 2026; therefore, be it

20 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 

21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate five 

SR0786- 2 -LRB104 21793 ECR 37490 r

1members of the Bolingbrook Fire Department, Lieutenant Joseph 

2Valach and Firefighter-Paramedics Cristian Abarca, John 

3Biederman, Blake Coughlin, and Brandon Roat, on receiving the 

4Firefighter Excellence Unit Citation Award on May 12, 2026; 

5and be it further

6 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 

7presented to Lt. Valach and Firefighter-Paramedics Abarca, 

8Biederman, Coughlin, and Roat of the Bolingbrook Fire 

9Department as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
