1HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, This year marks the 250th Anniversary of the 

3founding of the United States Marine Corps; and

4 WHEREAS, The phrase "Semper Fidelis" is Latin for "always 

5faithful" and is the motto of the United States Marine Corps; 

6and

7 WHEREAS, This promise means that Marines are always 

8faithful to those on their left and right, from the fellow 

9Marines they fight alongside to those in their communities for 

10whom they fight; therefore, be it

11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 

12HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 

13SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of 

14Interstate Route 80 of the National System of Interstate and 

15Defense Highways within the State of Illinois, from mile 

16marker 26 to mile marker 51, as the "U.S. Marine Corps Highway 

17Semper Fidelis"; and be it further

18 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation 

19is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with 

20State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs 

21giving notice of the name "U.S. Marine Corps Highway Semper 

HJ0019- 2 -LRB104 10763 ECR 20843 r

1Fidelis".
