A RESOLUTION honoring former Kentucky State Legislator Dan Seum. 1
WHEREAS, Dan Seum served the Kentucky Senate on two separate occasions, 2
from 1992 until 1994 and again from 1995 until 2019. He was a member of the Kentucky 3
House of Representatives from 1982 until 1988; and 4
WHEREAS, in his esteemed career as a lawmaker, Dan Seum was a member of 5
Senate Leadership for 13 years, first as Senate Majority Whip and then as Senate Majority 6
Caucus Chairman; and 7
WHEREAS, Dan Seum also served as chair of the Banking and Insurance 8
Committee and on the Committee on Committees, the Judiciary Committee, the State and 9
Local Government Committee, and several other legislative bodies; and 10
WHEREAS, Dan Seum was widely recognized for his legislative accomplishments. 11
The former Optimist of the Year, he received the American Athletic Association of the 12
Deaf Appreciation Award, the Louisville Distinguished Citizen's Award, and the 13
Kentucky Guardian of Small Business Award; and 14
WHEREAS, Dan Seum is a proud graduate of the Officer's Candidate School in the 15
United States National Guard. The operator of Malano's Restaurants for almost four 16
decades, he is a resident of Fairdale, Kentucky, where he lives with his wife Rita. They 17
are the parents of eight children, 21 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; and 18
WHEREAS, Dan Seum is rightfully honored on this day for his service to this 19
Commonwealth as a member of the Kentucky General Assembly. His tireless work on 20
behalf of his constituents is justly acknowledged, and for his more than 30 years of 21
service as a legislator, for the countless hours he spent working on behalf of his district, 22
and for his achievements as a human being of the first order, he is hereby commended 23
and granted best wishes on this day; 24

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of 26
Kentucky: 27

Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby salute Senator Dan "Malano" 1
Seum, express their sincere appreciation to his service to this General Assembly and to 2
this Commonwealth, and wish him Godspeed as he continues his retirement. 3
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Dan Seum. 4
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this 5
Resolution to Dan Seum, 1107 Holly Avenue, Fairdale, Kentucky 40118. 6
