WHEREAS, Nucor Corporation is celebrating the 50th

anniversary of its Nucor Steel--Texas plant in Jewett in 2025; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1975, the Jewett facility was one of

the first electric arc furnace plants in the United States; the

electric arc process for melting and recycling scrap steel is more

cost-effective than integrated iron and steel production and blast

furnaces, and it generates significantly less pollution; and

WHEREAS, A leader in the steel industry, Nucor Corporation

helped drive the shift from refining to recycling as the primary

method of steel production; today, it is North America's largest

steel and steel products manufacturer and its largest recycler,

 processing approximately 20 million tons of scrap metal last year;

 and

WHEREAS, Nucor recently expanded into new markets in Texas

with the acquisition and opening of facilities in Lewisville and

Houston; on an annual basis, its six Texas divisions have a

recycling capacity of 1.5 million tons of steel and a production

capacity of nearly 1.7 million tons; the company also employs

approximately 2,300 Texans at the plants; and

WHEREAS, Since 2010, the Nucor divisions in Jewett, Terrell,

and Grapeland have been annually awarded Voluntary Protection

Program Star status from the Occupational Safety and Health

Administration; moreover, Nucor Steel--Texas earned a Texas

Environmental Excellence Award for its efforts in resource

conservation, waste reduction, and pollution prevention; and

WHEREAS, Nucor Steel--Texas has contributed significantly to

the prosperity of Jewett over the past five decades, and it is

indeed fitting to recognize this significant milestone in the

company's history; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby congratulate Nucor Corporation on the 50th

anniversary of its Nucor Steel--Texas plant in Jewett and extend to

all those associated with the company sincere best wishes for

continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

prepared for Nucor as an expression of high regard by the Texas
