Minnesota SF 2623: Towing and recovery vehicles motor vehicle weight limitation exemption

1.1 A bill for an act​
1.2 relating to transportation; exempting towing and recovery vehicles from certain​
1.3 motor vehicle weight limitations; amending Minnesota Statutes 2020, section​
1.4 169.87, by adding a subdivision.​
1.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 169.87, is amended by adding a subdivision​
1.7 to read:​
1.8 Subd. 8.Towing and recovery vehicles.(a) Subject to paragraph (b), weight restrictions​
1.9 imposed under subdivisions 1 and 2 do not apply to a towing vehicle or other recovery​
1.10 vehicle that is being operated to tow or recover another vehicle that:​
1.11 (1) is involved in a vehicle crash or is inoperable, and is located within a public road​
1.12 right-of-way;​
1.13 (2) has entered a public body of water; or​
1.14 (3) is exempt from the restrictions under subdivision 1 or 2, as appropriate.​
1.15 (b) The exemption under this subdivision only applies when the towing or recovery​
1.16 vehicle is traveling to tow or recover a vehicle specified in paragraph (a), clauses (1) to (3),​
1.17 or is towing or recovering a vehicle specified in paragraph (a), clauses (1) to (3).​
