SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 540

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE 1
MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE FOR THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE 2
TOWN OF MANTEE, WEBSTER COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO UNOFFICIALLY NAME 3
THE TOWN AS "THE EPICENTER OF THE NATCHEZ TRACE" AND TO CONSTRUCT 4
APPROPRIATE MARKERS FOR PURPOSES OF PROMOTION OF TOURISM. 5
WHEREAS, the exit for the Town of Mantee from the Natchez 6
Trace is located at Milepost 219 at approximately the middle of 7
the Natchez Trace Parkway, which is 444 miles long; and 8
WHEREAS, on October 10, 2022, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen 9
of the Town of Mantee adopted a Resolution to name the Town as 10
"The Epicenter of the Natchez Trace," and to erect appropriate 11
signs and advertisement for the purposes of economic development 12
and promotion of tourism and public use facilities in the 13
community: 14
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 15
MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That 16
we do hereby express the support of the Mississippi Legislature 17
for the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Mantee, Webster 18
County, Mississippi, to unofficially name the town as "The 19

Epicenter of the Natchez Trace" and to construct appropriate 20
markers for purposes of promotion of tourism. 21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Mayor and Board of Aldermen 22
of Mantee are encouraged to erect appropriate signs and 23
advertisement for the purposes of economic development and 24
promotion of tourism and public use facilities in the community 25
with the approval of the Mississippi Division of Tourism, the 26
Mississippi Department of Transportation and the appropriate 27
federal agency and subject to the availability of appropriation 28
from any public or private source. 29
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution shall be 30
transmitted to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of 31
Mantee, the Mississippi Division of Tourism and the Mississippi 32
Department of Transportation, and be made available to the Capitol 33
Press Corps. 34
