Senate Resolution 1146

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Stephanie Moody, Chairman of the Atlanta-Fulton Public1
Library System Board of Trustees, on the occasion of her retirement from the board; and for2
other purposes.3
WHEREAS, Chairman Stephanie Moody has diligently and conscientiously devoted her4
time, talents, and energy since 2001 to serve on the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System5
Board of Trustees as a Committee Chairman and Vice Chairman and has faithfully served6
as Chairman of the board since 2010, never missing a meeting throughout her tenure; and7
WHEREAS, Chairman Moody has long been recognized by Fulton County residents, library8
friends, patrons, and board members for the vital role she has played in the leadership of the9
library system's board and for her deep personal commitment to providing exceptional library10
services and programming to all in Fulton County; and11
WHEREAS, she helped plan, develop, and implement a Library Facility Master Plan12
designed to build eight new libraries in Fulton County, expand two existing libraries, and13
refurbish older libraries for the purpose of providing better library facilities in underserved14
areas of Fulton County, thus improving service in all branches; and15
WHEREAS, Chairman Moody promoted and helped pass a $275 million Library Bond16
Referendum; and17
WHEREAS, Chairman Moody attended and spoke eloquently about the importance of18
libraries at 15 groundbreaking ceremonies and grand openings throughout the entire 75-mile19
length of Fulton County and has served on the Atlanta-Fulton County Library Foundation20
for over ten years; and21

WHEREAS, Chairman Moody is a published author and valued member of the Society of22
Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, bringing well-known published authors to speak23
frequently at library events; and24
WHEREAS, she has not limited her service to libraries and books alone, but has been elected25
to and served in positions of leadership in several organizations important to the betterment26
of her community, including serving as a PTSA President and Vice President, working on27
behalf of the Johns Creek Beautification Board, and serving as President of her Homeowners28
Association Board; and29
WHEREAS, Chairman Moody has been recognized for her service as Vice Chairman of the30
Johns Creek Community Association Board, and she served as Secretary of the Newtown31
Park Foundation, helping to refurbish and restore Newtown Park and its surroundings; and32
WHEREAS, she and her husband, Senator Dan Moody, have been happily married for more33
than 45 years and have been blessed with three children and ten grandchildren; and34
WHEREAS, Chairman Stephanie Moody's library leadership will be sorely missed by library35
friends and colleagues alike, and her integrity, class, and influence on the future of library36
service will be nigh impossible to replicate for many years.37
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body38
recognize Stephanie Moody, Chairman of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System Board39
of Trustees, commend her for her selfless volunteer service to the State of Georgia and40
Fulton County, and extend to her sincere best wishes for a happy and healthy retirement.41
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed42
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Chairman43
Stephanie Moody.44
