July 3, 2008

A JOINT RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE THE BOARD OF 1
DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, RETIREES, AND SUPPORTERS OF THE 2
TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY UPON ITS SEVENTY-FIFTH 3
ANNIVERSARY. 4
Whereas, since 1933, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has made 5
exemplary efforts to improve the quality of life in its seven-state service area, touching 6
millions of lives through its work in energy, the environment, and economic 7
development; and 8
Whereas, TVA helps businesses and families prosper by providing more 9
electricity than any other public utility in the nation with competitive rates and 10
transmission services that have been 99.999 percent reliable for eight consecutive years; 11
and 12
Whereas, TVA is exploring renewable energy sources and enhancing energy 13
efficiency so that our children and grandchildren can enjoy the benefits of clean and 14
reliable electric power for generations to come; and 15
Whereas, TVA has reduced its power plant emissions to their lowest levels in 16
decades and is working aggressively to further improve air quality so we can have 17
continued confidence in the health of the Tennessee Valley region; and 18
Whereas, TVA helps our region thrive and enables residents to enjoy a higher 19
quality of life by managing the Tennessee River system and other natural resources so 20
the Valley is a healthier and safer place to live and work; and 21
Whereas, TVA's integrated management of the river system provides multiple 22
stewardship benefits that include producing power, reducing floods, enabling 23
transportation, supporting water quality and water supply, enhancing recreation, and 24
protecting public land; and 25
Whereas, TVA builds business and community partnerships that foster 26
economic prosperity, helping companies and communities attract investments that bring 27
good jobs to our region and keep them here; and 28
Whereas, TVA provides these services – and many more – without taxpayer 29
dollars by paying for all of its activities through power sales and bond issues; and 30
