Senate Resolution No. 1730

BY: Senator GRIFFO

CONGRATULATING Andrew Telesky upon the occasion of
capturing the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling New York
State Division 2 103lbs Championship title

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play, and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Andrew Telesky of Sherburne-Earlville High School upon the occasion of
capturing the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Division 2 103lbs
Championship title at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York, on Saturday,
February 28, 2026; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of his excited fans,
Sherburn-Earlville's eighth-grader, Andrew Telesky, won the Division 2,
103-pound bracket with back-to-back upsets, becoming the school's first
state champion since 2016 and fourth all-time champion; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Telesky, who went 2-2 in his first state tournament
as a seventh-grader, finished this season with a 34-3 record and is 76-9
overall with the Timberwolves; and

WHEREAS, The two-time Section III champion opened the second day of
competition by pinning his opponent in the second period of their
semifinal and completed his state title run with an 8-7 decision; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Telesky entered the tournament as the number-four
seed and advanced to the state semifinals by following a first-round bye
with a technical-fall victory in the second round and a 4-1 decision
over his S-E opponent in the quarterfinals Friday; and

WHEREAS, Andrew Telesky avenged a first-round loss in the 2025 state
tournament with a furious third-period comeback in Saturday's D-II
finale; taken down in the first period and giving up two reversal points
in the next, he scored his first point on an escape with 13 seconds to
go in the second period; and

WHEREAS, In a 5-1 hole, with two minutes remaining in his second
varsity wrestling season, Andrew Telesky turned everything around in 60
seconds with a seven-point sequence; three takedown points, and four
more, for an ensuing near-fall gave him an 8-5 lead, his 20th
consecutive victory; and

WHEREAS, The talent displayed by this athlete is due, in great part,
to the efforts of an outstanding coach who has the ability to develop
potential into excellence; and

WHEREAS, In a sport, such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed, and agility, Coach Greg DuVall worked hard to hone the
skills of this outstanding champion, teaching him lessons which will
prove invaluable both on and off the mat; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Andrew Telesky upon the occasion of capturing the 2026
NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Divison 2 103lbs Championship title; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Andrew Telesky and Coach Greg DuVall.
