1SENATE RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 

3congratulate Severson Dells Nature Center on the occasion of 

4its 50th anniversary; and

5 WHEREAS, Severson Dells Nature Center was established in 

61975 when the Harry and Fannie Severson family donated 369 

7acres of Midwest prairie and oak savannas to the Winnebago 

8County Forest Preserves with the intention that the land be 

9used for nature education, particularly for children; and

10 WHEREAS, Severson Dells Nature Center serves over 13,000 

11people each year with hands-on, science-based activities 

12designed to inspire a love of nature that leads to a sense of 

13stewardship for the environment; and

14 WHEREAS, Connecting people and place, Severson Dells 

15Nature Center offers field trips and camps for children, STEM 

16programming for families, and hikes, public programming, and 

17conservation opportunities for adults; and

18 WHEREAS, Severson Dells Nature Center hosts a robust 

19AmeriCorps program that teaches AmeriCorps members about 

20environmental education and community advocacy and prepares 

21them for postgraduate education and employment; and

1 WHEREAS, Severson Dells Nature Center purchased a 168-acre 

2shuttered golf course from the Rockford Park District in 2024, 

3and the nature center has begun a three-year restoration and 

4rewilding of the property with the goal of creating an urban 

5nature preserve to serve the east side of Rockford, which will 

6become one of the few preserves accessible by public 

7transportation in Rockford; and

8 WHEREAS, Through rewilding the golf course, Severson Dells 

9Nature Center intends to achieve a num
