Bill Text

WHEREAS, On Friday, June 6, 2025, federal law enforcement officers were violently attacked while carrying out lawful immigration enforcement operations in the City of Los Angeles; and

WHEREAS, Those officers were met with mobs of agitators who physically obstructed lawful actions and incited chaos in the streets; and

WHEREAS, Governor Gavin Newsom has refused to restore order in the City of Los Angeles, choosing instead to place blame on federal actions and on his political opponents rather than take accountability for California’s failed policies; and

WHEREAS, The violent resistance to lawful federal enforcement operations is a direct result of California’s radical sanctuary state policies which specifically restrict cooperation between state, local, and federal agencies on immigration enforcement, forcing federal authorities to conduct immigration enforcement operations directly within local communities, thereby increasing tensions and risks to public safety; and

WHEREAS, These policies have created dangerous gaps in communication and coordination between agencies, making it harder to plan safe operations and emboldening those who oppose immigration enforcement to interfere without consequence; and

WHEREAS, The lawlessness witnessed in the City of Los Angeles is not an isolated incident but a predictable outcome of state policies that undermine enforcement and handcuff law enforcement; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature condemns the violent attacks on law enforcement officers in the City of Los Angeles and calls for an immediate end to policies that obstruct lawful immigration enforcement; and be it further

Resolved, That the Legislature urges Governor Gavin Newsom to take immediate action to restore law and order, and to support full cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
