A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY 1981 NFL DRAFT CLASS FOR THEIR SUCCESSFUL
CAREERS AT SOUTH CAROLINA STATE AND WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE PROFESSIONAL NFL TEAMS.

Whereas, with great
pride, the South Carolina House of Representatives salutes the members of the
South Carolina State University (SCSU) 1981 NFL draft class for their many
achievements in both college and professional football; and

Whereas, in 1981, South
Carolina State University boasted eight student athletes in the 1981 NFL draft,
consisting of five draft picks and three free agents, which was the best ever
in the rich history of SCSU football; and

Whereas, these outstanding
Bulldogs played in an impressive four Super Bowls, three NFC Championships,
three AFC Championships, and two Pro Bowls, and their record was the best in
the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), as well as for all historically
Black colleges and universities (HBCU). Further, the SCSU 1981 NFL draft class
remains, to this day, number one, rising above all other MEAC colleges or
universities, according to the numbers, participation, and accomplishments in
this draft class, since the MEAC Conference was formed to play, and compete in,
football in 1970; and

Whereas, players from
the South Carolina State University 1981 NFL draft class include the following:
Robert Geathers Sr. (drafted 3rd round, Buffalo Bills), Edwin Bailey (drafted
5th round, Seattle Seahawks), Charlie Brown (drafted 8th round, Washington
Redskins), William Judson (drafted 8th round, Miami Dolphins), John Alford
(drafted 12th round, Miami Dolphins), Angelo King (free agent, Dallas Cowboys),
Leroy Robinson (free agent, Philadelphia Eagles), and Chris Ragland (free
agent, Washington Redskins); and

Whereas, taking much
pleasure in celebrating the SCSU 1981 NFL draft class, the House extends to
each member of the class best wishes for much continued success in the years to
come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House
of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize
and congratulate the members of the South Carolina State University 1981 NFL
draft class for their successful careers at South Carolina State and with their
respective professional NFL teams.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution
be presented to each member of the SCSU 1981 NFL draft class.
