A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Tony Barnhart on his outstanding service as a college football1
reporter and analyst; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Tony Barnhart has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital3
role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the industry of4
sports broadcasting; and5
WHEREAS, Tony spent 25 years with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as its national6
college football writer and eight seasons with CBS Sports before joining the SEC Network7
in 2014; and8
WHEREAS, he was president of the Football Writers Association of America and the United9
States Basketball Writers Association; and10
WHEREAS, he has received the Bert McGrane Award from the Football Writers Association11
of America, recognizing his lifetime contribution to the sport, which is displayed at the12
College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia; and13
WHEREAS, in 2016, this distinguished gentleman was named to the Grady Fellowship, one14
of the highest honors bestowed by the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism at the15
University of Georgia, his alma mater; and16
WHEREAS, in 2017, Tony received the Distinguished Achievement Award in Broadcasting17
and Cable from the DiGamma Kappa broadcast society at the University of Georgia; and18
WHEREAS, Tony's significant organizational and leadership talents, keen sense of vision,19
and superb broadcasting skills have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues20
and associates; and21

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this22
remarkable and distinguished individual be appropriately recognized.23
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24
recognize and commend Tony Barnhart for his commitment to sports broadcasting and25
extend the most sincere best wishes for continued success.26
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Tony Barnhart.28
