A RESOLUTION
Congratulating and commending the Turner Theological Seminary upon its 130th1
anniversary; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, this year, the Turner Theological Seminary celebrates the 130th anniversary of3
its founding with the theme "Cultivating The Bridge Toward A Socially Conscious,4
Innovative, and Prepared 21st Century Ministry"; and 5
WHEREAS, named in honor of Bishop Henry McNeal Turner, the resident bishop of the6
African Methodist Episcopal Church in Georgia, the Turner Theological Seminary began as7
a department of Morris Brown College in 1894; and8
WHEREAS, the Trustee Board of Morris Brown College, under the leadership of Bishop9
William Reid Wilkes Sr., authorized the Turner Theological Seminary to become a founding10
constituent of the Interdenominational Theological Center in 1958; and11
WHEREAS, since its founding, the Turner Theological Seminary has served as the12
preeminent world center for afri-centric theological engagement and prepared its students to13
advance God's mission of love, justice, and restoration in the world; and14

WHEREAS, graduates of this distinguished institution can be found in all areas of leadership15
in the church, college, and seminaries as well as within civic and political roles; and16
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the Turner Theological Seminary be17
appropriately honored during this special time.18
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body19
congratulate and commend the Turner Theological Seminary upon the grand occasion of its20
130th anniversary and extend sincere best wishes for continued success.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed22
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Turner23
Theological Seminary.24
