education and clinical training qualify them to diagnose and treat

illnesses, prescribe medications, and provide health counseling to

 patients; and

WHEREAS, These dedicated professionals play an important

role in the delivery of high-quality, personalized health care to

countless Texans, and through their hard work and expertise, they

throughout the state, East Texas, and House District 11, which

serves Panola, Rusk, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Sabine, and Newton

 Counties; and

WHEREAS, Nurse practitioners are highly valued members of the

state's health care community; every year, they make an estimated

shortages, including primary care, women's health, and mental

 health; and

WHEREAS, Decades of research have demonstrated the high

standard of care that nurse practitioners provide, and their

contributions have been recognized by leading policy and

governmental entities, such as the National Academy of Medicine,

the National Governors Association, Brookings, the American

Enterprise Institute, and over 40 organizations in Texas; and

WHEREAS, Texas continues to face the challenge of ensuring

the availability of health care across the state, and nurse

 practitioners are a vital part of the campaign to expand access;

 now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas

Legislature hereby commend the nurse practitioners of East Texas
