Senate Resolution No. 63

BY: Senator WALCZYK

COMMEMORATING the 220th Anniversary of the Town of
 Wells, New York

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 220th Anniversary of the Town of Wells in Hamilton
County, New York; and

WHEREAS, The area which Wells now occupies was first settled in
1798, and the Town was officially established in 1805 while it was still
part of Montgomery County; it was split off from parts of Mayfield and
Northampton and subsequently reduced by the incorporation of Hope and
Long Lake; and

WHEREAS, The town was named after Joshua Wells, a land agent who
built the first mills in the region; and

WHEREAS, The Town of Wells became a tourist destination with its
host of opportunities for kayaking, boating, fishing, hunting, and other
sought-after outdoor activities such as a ice racing on Lake Algonquin
and Old Home Days which takes place during the first weekend of August
annually; and

WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of
growth and change, the Town of Wells, New York continues its commitment
to enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive
business, institutional and educational climate, and providing all
essential services; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 220th Anniversary of the Town of Wells, New York,
recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in the
life of the communities of the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
