1SENATE RESOLUTION

2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 

3congratulate the United States Navy on its 250th anniversary; 

4and

5 WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy was founded on October 13, 1775 

6when the Continental Congress agreed to supply Gen. George 

7Washington with an armed schooner and a sloop; and

8 WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy has been used successfully in the 

9American Revolution, World War I, World War II, the Korean 

10War, the Vietnam War, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Operation 

11Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

12 WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy is comprised of men and women who 

13are consummate professionals even while serving in some of the 

14harshest environments and putting their lives at risk; and

15 WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy embodies the values of honor, 

16courage, and commitment, inspiring generations of American 

17citizens to serve and defend their county; and

18 WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy plays a critical role in the 

19defense of the United States and in preserving the lives and 

20liberties of its citizens; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 

2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the 

3United States Navy on its 250th anniversary.
