A senate RESOLUTION

TO REMEMBER AND HONOR THE LIFE OF CHERRY LEWIS

SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

Whereas, the members of
the South Carolina Senate learned with deep sorrow of the passing of Cherry
Lewis Thompson, age seventy-five, of Conway, who entered into eternal rest on
Sunday, December 14, 2025; and

Whereas, born in
Conway, Cherry Lewis Thompson was the beloved daughter of the late Odell Bunion
Lewis and Edith Demaris Cherry Lewis, and she lived her life grounded in faith,
family, and service to her community; and

Whereas, Mrs. Thompson
was a devoted woman of faith and a member of First United Methodist Church in
Conway, and she also attended Poplar Community Church, where she found
strength, fellowship, and opportunities to serve others; and

Whereas, prior to her
retirement, she served the people of South Carolina through her employment with
the South Carolina Department of Social Services, where her compassion and
dedication positively impacted countless lives; and

Whereas, she shared a
loving marriage with her husband, Horry County Sheriff Phillip E. Thompson of
Conway, and together they built a family rooted in love, commitment, and mutual
support; and

Whereas, Mrs. Thompson
was a devoted mother to her three sons, Scott Thompson (Michelle), Christopher
John Thompson (Crystal), and Bradley Thompson, all of Conway, and she took
great pride in their lives and accomplishments; and

Whereas, she was a
cherished grandmother to six grandchildren, Brandon Thompson (Landi), Blake
Thompson, Nathan Thompson (Olivia), Jenna Cherry Thompson, Connor Thompson, and
Lyndsay Thompson, and a beloved great-grandmother to Tucker Harvey Thompson,
all of whom brought her great joy; and

Whereas, she is
survived by these family members and also by her sister, Lynette Leventis
(Peter) of Columbia; her brothers, Edward Lewis of Hemingway, Robert Lewis
(Gigi) of Columbia, and Charles Lewis of Murrells Inlet; and many nieces,
nephews, and cousins, who will forever remember her kindness and grace; and

Whereas, Cherry Lewis
Thompson will be remembered as a faithful servant; a devoted public employee;
and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life
enriched her family and community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the
South Carolina Senate, by this resolution,
remember and honor the life of Cherry Lewis Thompson of Conway and express
their deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.
