COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of Strong
 Memorial Hospital

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Strong Memorial Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Strong Memorial Hospital of Rochester, New York, officially
opened its doors on January 4, 1926, marking the beginning of a
century-long commitment to patient care grounded in the revolutionary
idea that discovery and learning could transform healthcare; and

WHEREAS, Strong Memorial Hospital, a founding institution of the
University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), pioneered an integrated
model combining research, education, and clinical excellence under one
roof; from treating its first patient on January 5, 1926, to operating
250 beds, treating more than 3,400 patients, delivering 122 babies, and
performing over 2,000 surgeries in its inaugural year, the Hospital
quickly became a cornerstone of healthcare in the Rochester region; and

WHEREAS, For 100 years, Strong Memorial Hospital has trained
generations of clinicians and researchers, advanced medical knowledge
through groundbreaking discoveries, and delivered high-quality, complex
care to countless patients; it has been a place where compassion and
innovation work together; and

WHEREAS, As it enters its second century, URMC's focus remains on
expanding clinical capacity, advancing research, educating the future
healthcare workforce, and improving health outcomes across the
communities it serves with new discoveries, new ways to heal, and new
opportunities to make a difference; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Strong Memorial Hospital, upon the occasion of celebrating its
100th Anniversary, and to honor its members, past and present, who have
labored so conscientiously to secure and improve the quality of life for
the members of the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Strong Memorial Hospital.
