PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF JANUARY 27TH TO FEBRUARY 2ND OF 2019 TO BE
"PHYSICIAN ANESTHESIOLOGISTS WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, More than 100 million operations and procedures are performed every year 1
with anesthesia and physician anesthesiologists playing a critical role, before, during and after 2
procedures, making patient safety their top priority; and 3
WHEREAS, Anesthesia is safer than ever before but there is always a potential for 4
complications and side effects and physician anesthesiologists have the training and expertise to 5
help minimize risks, monitor for any problems and take quick action; and 6
WHEREAS, When seconds count, when emergencies or complications occur 7
unexpectedly, physician anesthesiologists draw on their extensive medical education and years of 8
clinical training and experience to make critical decisions that save lives; and 9
WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are committed to high quality and safe patient 10
care and educating patients to make their anesthesia even safer, reduce the risk of complication 11
and ensure a complete recovery from surgery; now, therefore be it 12
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations 13
hereby proclaims the week of January 27th to February 2nd of 2019, to be the 5th
Annual 14
"Physician Anesthesiologists Week" in the State of Rhode Island; and be it further 15
RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby urges all citizens to join us in recognizing 16
physician anesthesiologists and thanking them for developing the techniques and protocols that 17
have greatly improved the safety of anesthesia and the well-being of surgical patients each day; 18
and be it further 19

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 1
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the American Society of Anesthesiologists. 2
