10 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
11 1. § 1. That the Department of Health shall provide information, resources, and education to all food
12 banks located within the Commonwealth regarding outreach opportunities for providing assistance to
13 individuals completing an application for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women,
14 Infants, and Children (WIC).
15 [ 2. That the provisions of the first enactment of this act shall become effective on July 1, 2025.
16 3. That the Department of Health shall explore strategies to support the outreach and education
17 efforts for food banks in the Commonwealth pursuant to this act. Such strategies shall include (i)
18 information about opportunities to create public-private partnerships, such as with the Federation
19 of Virginia Food Banks; (ii) information on funding from all available federal channels for services
20 to support education and outreach on the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women,
21 Infants, and Children (WIC); and (iii) recommendations on required resources for implementation
22 of such identified strategies. The Department of Health shall report its findings and
23 recommendations to the Chairmen of the Senate Committees on Finance and Appropriations and
24 Education and Health and the House Committees on Appropriations and Health and Human
25 Services by November 1, 2024. ]
