Senate Resolution No. 1001

BY: Senator MARTINS

HONORING Roberta Cooperman upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the Port
Jewish Center on June 14, 2025

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of exceptional character and commitment whose
purposeful endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life in their
communities and across the great State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Roberta Cooperman upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Port Jewish Center at its Annual Gala, "Fueling Our
Future," on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Harbor Links in Port Washington,
New York; and

WHEREAS, The Port Jewish Center is recognizing the dedicated leaders
of its committees whose tireless efforts ensure the Center's spiritual,
financial, and physical vitality; through their work, these committed
congregants uphold the core tenets of Reform Judaism-pursuing justice,
fostering community, caring for others, and repairing the world-thus
safeguarding the Center's mission and lasting presence for generations
to come; and

WHEREAS, Roberta Cooperman has been a devoted member of the Port
Jewish Center for 37 years, during which time she has exemplified
steadfast dedication, leadership, and service to the congregation and
broader community; and

WHEREAS, As co-chair of the Security Committee, Roberta Cooperman
has played a pivotal role in enhancing the safety and protection of the
Port Jewish Center during a time of rising anti-Semitism across the
nation; under her leadership, the Center applied for and received
competitive State and Federal grants totaling $300,000, enabling a
comprehensive overhaul of its security systems and protocols; and

WHEREAS, Roberta Cooperman, together with fellow co-chair Ilise
Friedman, has devoted countless hours to the meticulous implementation
of these grant-funded projects, ensuring not only their success but also
the full reimbursement of all related costs, a process requiring
tremendous diligence, patience, and persistence; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her recent work in security, Roberta
Cooperman has long been a committed leader within the Port Jewish
Center, having previously served as co-chair of the Religious School and
as a Trustee on the Center's Board, thereby contributing to the growth
and stability of its educational and governance programs; and

WHEREAS, Through her unwavering dedication and collaborative spirit,
Roberta Cooperman has helped create a safer, stronger, and more
resilient Port Jewish Center, securing its physical safety for the
present and future while setting a powerful example of volunteer
leadership and service; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a devoted and
diligent individual, whose tireless efforts and selfless contributions
benefit so many and reflect the highest ideals of civic and communal
responsibility; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roberta Cooperman upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Port Jewish Center, and to extend its sincere
appreciation for her extraordinary service and enduring contributions;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Roberta Cooperman.
