A RESOLUTION
Congratulating the Central High School Lions wrestling team for winning the 2024 GHSA1
Class 4A State Wrestling Championship; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, the Central High School Lions wrestling team has established and maintained3
a proud tradition of excellence with equal emphases on character and academics; and4
WHEREAS, this superlative team has completed another triumphant season and claimed its5
most recent wrestling dual team title by edging North Hall 47 to 33 and claimed the6
traditional team title, outscoring the closest team by over 100 points; and7
WHEREAS, excellent skill, superior fitness, and extraordinary resilience made this team a8
spectacular one to observe throughout the season, and as a fitting finale to its remarkable9
2024 campaign, the team captured its second straight dual team title and the program's first10
traditional team title; and11
WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding12
athletic ability, dedication, and hard work; fighting spirit; superb discipline; and commitment13
to wrestling of each member of the team; and the astute direction of Coaches Cody Knight,14
Craig Murray, Trey Travis, Nathan Horsley, and Chris Sheffield; and15

WHEREAS, many Lions won individual state medals: Gabe Swann earned 1st place at 10616
lbs. and is a two-time state champion; Chris Phillips earned 1st place at 113lbs.; Colt17
Mitchell earned 5th Place at 120lbs.; Ty Murray earned 1st place at 126 lbs. and is a18
two-time state champion; Danny Krutules earned 4th Place at 132 lbs.; Colson Hoffman19
earned 1st Place at 138 lbs.; Holden Church earned 2nd Place at 144 lbs.; William White20
earned 2nd Place at 150 lbs.; Andrew Sheffield earned 5th Place at 165 lbs.; Matt Phillips21
earned 4th place at 175 lbs.; and Ty Brewer earned 4th place at 215 lbs.; and22
WHEREAS, this all-star team included Gabe Swann, Jake Martin, Jase Moore, Colt Mitchell,23
Chris Phillips, Ty Murray, Owen Wilkinson, Tuff Finley, Danny Krutules, Jesse Shope,24
Colson Hoffman, Holden Church, Preston Ingram, Orlando Ruiz, Caiden Shope, Talon Scott,25
William White, Paul Wilson, Andrew Sheffield, Haiden Brunson, Elijah Toliver, Matt26
Phillips, Hayden Gammon, Nate Horsley, Ty Brewer, Jonathan Watts, Christopher Ellis,27
Kaleb Disharoon, and Jayden Thomasson; and28
WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by29
performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is30
abundantly proper to call them champions.31
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body32
congratulate the Central High School Lions wrestling team for winning the 2024 GHSA33
Class 4A State Wrestling Championship and extend best wishes for their continued success.34
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed35
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Central High36
School Lions wrestling team.37
